CalMTA seeks qualified contractors or teams of contractors to provide implementation services for the Induction Cooking Market Transformation Initiative (MTI). This MTI is designed to accelerate adoption of 120V induction cooktops and ranges in California’s kitchens to provide a high-quality cooking experience with the added health and safety benefits afforded by induction technology. This plug-in technology helps avoid costly panel upgrades that can come with replacement of gas stoves. The initiative also aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and provide enhanced health, safety, and other non-energy benefits afforded by induction technology.
Implementation activities will deploy intervention strategies that remove market barriers and leverage opportunities to stimulate development of more affordable 120V induction products, increase consumer awareness of the benefits of induction cooking, and position efficient induction options as the first choice for cooking in most homes. This MTI places special attention on making affordable products available to environmental and social justice communities.
Induction cooking serves as a linchpin to the full home electrification needed to achieve California’s decarbonization goals. The Induction Cooking MTI leverages and builds upon new market entrants and national momentum, enabling rapid deployment and scalability.
This MTI was approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) via an Advice Letter in May 2026. The initial contract term for this MTI is through 2027, with annual renewals through 2031. The initial implementation budget is not to exceed $3.925 million with up to an additional $725,000 in incentives targeting upstream market actors (not consumer incentives).
