Learn about the Room Heat Pump Collaborative

Room heat pumps (RHPs) are poised to be a game-changer for energy-efficient space conditioning in small single-family and multifamily residences. National interest in this new technology has brought together nearly 50 industry partners under a Room Heat Pump Collaborative. The Collaborative — spearheaded by CalMTA, Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE), Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA), and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) — is seeking to drive market adoption of qualified products making them identifiable, accessible, and affordable for consumers.

In addition to delivering heat pump efficiency for cooling and heating, RHPs can be self-installed, and often can plug into a standard 120V outlet without requiring panel upgrades. The RHP Collaborative meets regularly to coordinate on research and market opportunities. The Collaborative has also developed working groups to focus on topics like RHP measure development for inclusion in efficiency programs and product messaging.
