Residential HPWH Market Acceleration Summit Hosted by CalMTA

Residential HPWH Market Acceleration Summit

CalMTA hosted a Residential Heat Pump Water Heating (HPWH) Market Acceleration Summit from Aug. 26-27 in Oakland, California. This invitation-only event brought 40 leaders, innovators, and decision-makers together to help define the pathways that will make heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) the preferred choice for California homes.

About the Summit

HPWHs are a high-value technology that are critical to helping California meet its energy efficiency and decarbonization goals. While many important programs are already working to increase installations across the state, market share for key HPWH products remains relatively low.

CalMTA is investigating a potential initiative that aims to support current efficiency interests focused on residential HPWHs to accelerate market adoption to achieve statewide goals. This summit helped define which actions or interventions CalMTA could pursue to fill the gaps and accelerate market adoption of HPWHs.

At the Summit, participants:

  • Collaborated with fellow market leaders to identify the most promising pathways — existing and emerging — for transformative HPWH adoption
  • Shared their experiences, insights, and ideas around statewide solutions and strategies to supercharge increased market share
  • Learned about CalMTA’s potential role in this ecosystem and how they can stay engaged in shaping what’s next
