Madison Elementary field study tour: A firsthand look at innovative window retrofit solutions for improved building performance

CRAWS field study window installation
CalMTA is holding a behind-the-scenes look at the impact of innovative, energy‑saving window retrofit technology on student comfort, teacher experience, and building energy performance at James Madison Elementary School in Madera, California.
This event will gather local leaders, school officials, and media to highlight key findings from a field study conducted by CalMTA as we finalize a market transformation initiative focused on Commercial Replacement and Attachment Window Solutions (CRAWS). Both Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and Pacific Northwest National Lab are supporting the study, which seeks to verify the efficiency and other benefits to be gained from this technology.

Window solutions allow older, less efficient buildings to upgrade windows at a lower cost and with less disruption than traditional window replacements. In addition to energy savings, the attachment window products yield significant non-energy benefits: improved thermal comfort, reducing outside noise, and air filtration. While CalMTA’s work is focused on accelerating market adoption of energy-efficient technologies and practices, we’re especially excited about the potential for window solutions to improve learning environments in schools like Madison Elementary, which is located in a state-designated  disadvantaged community (DACs) due to high environmental, health, and socioeconomic burdens on local residents.

The tour will provide a unique opportunity to see the products in action, learn about the technology and CalMTA’s coming MTI, and hear firsthand insights from initial field study results. Click play on the video below to learn more.
